Although each athlete within the FITTER squad works closely with Bevan or Tim as their primary coach, both coaches work in collaboration to closely track and review the training and development of all our FITTER athletes.

Bevan McKinnon

Bevan McKinnon


Bevan is an Ironman University Certified Coach, Triathlon NZ Level 3 Accredited Coach, Bike NZ Coach and is qualified as a NETFIT Strength and Conditioning Coach. He also holds the position of Research Associate for AUT Millennium's Endurance Performance Clinic and Triathlon Coach for the Sports Performance Research Institute. For a number of years Bevan has been a keen advocate of the low carb high fat (LCHF) strategy for endurance athletes and was instrumental in bringing the 'fat adapted' athlete message to the wider endurance athlete community.  He has featured in many articles and books including most recently 'What the Fat? Sports Performance' by Prof Grant Schofield.

As an elite level triathlete Bevan has competed at World Champs in Olympic, Long Course and Iron distance races. He has had numerous wins, podium finishes and top 10 placings both here in New Zealand and overseas. In 2014 Bevan won the overall age group race at New Zealand IRONMAN coming home in a time of 9hrs and 55secs. In 2016 at the age of 45 he raced again at IMNZ coming home in a time of 8hrs 48mins earning himself the title of fastest NZ age group athlete of all time on that course. Later that year Bevan raced to a Gold Medal at the 70.3 World Champs in Mooloolaba and a Gold Medal at the IRONMAN World Champs in Kona.

Tim, who's based in Wanaka New Zealand, has an impressive resume within the Triathlon and Multisport world having coached professional and age group athletes to National and International success in Olympic Triathlon, Iron-Distance Triathlon, Xterra Triathlon, Multisport and Mountain Biking.

Tim brings an impressive mix of credentials and experience to the FITTER brand:

  • University of Otago, BPhEd (Bachelor of Phys Ed) and MPhEd (Masters of Phys Ed)

  • High Performance Coach for Triathlon New Zealand

  • Coached at the London Olympic Games 2012 and Rio Olympic Games 2016

Tim has also worked with some of the worlds' best athletes including Commonwealth and Olympic Games Representatives, Xterra Worlds podium winners and Champions at iron distance races, half distances, Coast to Coast and MTB.
